BECOME A FOOD AND CULTURE AMBASSADOR
This Food and Culture project promises to be big! We need a team of Food and Culture ambassadors to help us ensure that this project is of the highest quality and success. We need various types of ambassadors. If you would like to become a Food and Culture Ambassador please complete the form below. In the Comment box please describe what role you would like to play in the project.
What will you do as a Food and Culture Ambassador?
You will decide the type of support you wish to provide, as well as the time commitment. Most of the roles listed below are self-explanatory. If you are volunteering as an Advisor and/or a Curriculum Designer you may do any of the following:
- Submit curriculum ideas, resources, sample lesson plans and activities related to the Issues and Themes (some of these have no resources as yet)
- Be available to provide assistance to the Teacher Teams collaborating within the overall project.
- You are invited to visit the Teacher Teams' pages and submit your recommendations
- Assist in developing the guidelines for project teams, products submitted, etc.
Individual teachers will register to participate in the Food and Culture project; they will provide information regarding their location, school, grade level and/or courses taught, age range of their students, languages spoken, preferences on the type of project they wish to do with their class within the framework of the Food and Culture project. We will then assist them in locating the appropriate partners to collaborate with their class. The Teacher Teams will then get together to discuss possibilities for their collaboration, define their project and its parameters, and will also be responsible for developing and implementing their lesson plans.
We will be welcoming teachers from the early childhood level all the way through the graduate university level, in every subject area. The projects can be quite flexible so that there may be an older class collaborating with a younger class, planning a curriculum experience and serving as teachers to the younger students. Or there may be a case in which a 3rd grade class is collaborating with a 4th grade and a 5th grade class. The content and skills are easily adaptable to different grade levels.
Teacher Teams will then peruse the suggestions for their project which are located within this web site. They may choose to proceed with one of the Issues or Themes suggested, or they may decide that there is some other project they really want to do. The only product requirements for each participating class (not each team, each class in the team) are:
- Each participating class will submit at least one recipe for the Kids Global Cookbook. It should be accompanied by photos or other illustrations, and they should also include an essay to accompany the recipe. (Similar to what we see in the book, Hungry Planet - What the World Eats.) Here is an article about this book with some images. Here is another site with images from the book.
- Submit at least one student-produced video related to their project and/or to the recipe they submit.
- Each teacher will submit at least 3 titles of children's literature written by an author from their country. These will go into a Global Children's Literature Database. (I suppose we could also have databases for music, songs and games.??)
- Each class must participate in a collaborative project with a class from another country (or state - until we have enough classes and countries signed up)
Teacher Teams will then visit the Distinguished Ambassadors page to see what types of additional support are available. The ambassadors are experts in many fields and this group represents a wealth of knowledge, talent and expertise. Teachers may then submit a Request for Advisement indicating the type of project they are doing and the type of assistance they would like to receive. Ambassadors will then be able to assist this team; this will vary depending upon the individual ambassador, their schedule and workload.
The list below indicates the types of assistance this project is seeking. If you have other ideas for volunteering please contact us!
Thank you so much for your support and participation!
